BY SANDY HINTZ
Illustrated by Dean Madonia
Most of us who have ever loved a pet know how special they become to the family. Pets have a way of teaching children many things about life such as: kindness, responsibility, discipline, affection, laughter, love and sadly, loss. Sandy’s experience with Cindy instilled a life-long love and respect for animals. It is the author’s hope that her factual tale about Cindy can help children be kind and caring to their pets and other animals–whatever animal that may be.
Sandy Hintz was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and is a retired educator from Kalamazoo Public Schools where she taught music. She lives with her husband, Richard, a retired music educator and their two dogs, Magnolia Cupcake (“Meg-a-moo”) and Jocelyn. Sandy’s grandchildren, Boden and August Johnson, and Elijah and Scarlett Rau, were the true motivators for Sandy to write the book.
Dean Madonia, the illustrator for the book, was also raised in Kalamazoo. In addition to being a visual artist, he is a composer, recording artist and performer in local and national clubs.
